| Zip Drive Recovery |
We often receive zip drives with errors such as:
- Clicking Sound
- Bad Seek
- Drive Error
- Zip Not Recognized
- Drive Not Found
All these errors have had data on them, potentially lost, but now recovered.
Zip Drives and the like are extremely robust, so data recovery is rarely needed. On the downside, as they work at a much higher spin speeds than floppy discs (3000rpm against 300rpm for a floppy) and the enclosure is more tightly closed, data recovery is more difficult if it suddenly refuses to read or write.
As with a floppy, ask a friend or colleague and try to read it using another Zip drive to ascertain that the problem with the Zip disc, not in the drive.
Blowing air into a Zip drive is not a good idea; the slider/disc interface is very delicate. If you need to recover data from the disc, your only option now is a professional data recovery service.
The Iomega Zip drive was probably the most popular removable disk drive on the PC. It comes in three sizes, 100MB, 250MB and 750MB and with a parallel port or USB interface. All three disks are the same physical size, and there is some compatibility between them, with higher capacity drives being able to read the older lower capacity disk. Stellar Data Solution Pvt. The next Iomega drive was the Jaz drive which did not appear to have the same mass appeal, but did have capacities of 1GB or 2GB and often a SCSI interface.
